I am experimenting with making a low maintenance herb garden on what used to be a book shelf.

It was inspired by the AUK which I bought to grow some herbs on the kitchen top. However, the AUK is around £200 and only grows a small amount of herbs! It looks stylish though.

I realised I wanted to grow a lot more herbs than this would allow and I realised the AUK system was fairly simple. Pots with the roots in water (watered from below) and then a grow light. So I experimented with replicating the system more cheaply. So i bought the grow lights and pots seperately and assembled the whole bookshelf of growing space for less than the cost of an AUK.

The inner pots are sitting on top of a layer of rocks/pebbles that I just keep topped up with water.
